IQAC, Uttara University, organized a 2-Day Long Workshop on Administrative Challenges & Role of Non-Teaching Staff in Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education was held 3-4 March 2017 at IQAC Seminar Hall.

In his speech, Professor Dr. H M Jahirul Haque talked about “Necessary Skill set of non-teaching staff”, and “Behavioral aspects of non-teaching staff”.  He explained the importance and role of non-teaching staff from administrative viewpoint to improve as well as maintain a quality culture at all levels of management at the university that will directly affect the efforts of academics to assure quality education. The non-teaching staff should be honest, sincere, disciplined and dedicated in their day-to-day activities. The major tasks of non-academic staffs are to provide effective, efficient and timely logistic and other necessary supports to academic departments.

Mr. Kazi Mahiuddin explained the current personnel management system at Uttara University and plans to improve the service quality of both non-academic and academic staffs. He said that all decisions at an administrative level are made timely.

Mr. Md. Arif Imam, in his presentation, discussed the present practices of Financial Management at Uttara University. He informed the participants that the accounting system of Uttara University is fully automated and the payment of salary and other disbursements are regular.

Mr. Muhammad Abdul Gafur stressed on the need of Quality Assurance in University Administration in order to attain quality culture at all spheres of the university starting from office management to teaching-learning.  He said that honesty, sincerity, discipline, dedication, behavior, smartness, ethics and time management are the key issues to deliver effective and efficient services which he explained through real life examples. He urged that the non-academic staff has to play a great role to assure quality education at the university. He suggested the participants to be responsive to the job and complete the job within the stipulated time and deliver to respective officials in time.

At the end of the workshop the Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha appreciated the speakers for their valuable and inspiring talks to the non-academic staffs of Uttara University. She said that the non-academic staffs are the backbone of the university management. She said that this workshop will enrich the professional knowledge of the non-academic staffs and stimulate them to work with devotion and sincerity for the well being of the university. She urged the participants to apply the knowledge and techniques the learnt from the workshop in their job fields. She also requested IQAC Director to arrange more training/workshop for the non-academic staffs.

In his concluding speech, Prof. Dr. Debi Narayan Rudra Paul thanked the Chief Guest for her presence in the certificate awarding ceremony and the speakers for their rich presentation. He also informed that IQAC has a plan to organize similar trainings for the librarians and other non-academic staffs.
